More information about this Kangaba
Large Mali djembe 'Prestige', made of dugura wood, goatskin, pre-stretched ropes, 36x60 cm
Kangaba is the historic capital of the Mandingo Empire, located 90 kilometers from Bamako on the Guinean border. Kangaba instruments are all made traditionally. Carved from the finest wood by skilled smiths and assembled with natural goatskin, Kangaba drums convey the original vibration, warmth, and power of the Mandingo Empire. Since 2000, Kangaba (with the participation of its artists) has been planting a variety of trees for use in instrument production.
The professional instruments are made of dugura, teak, and boumou wood. These woods have an incomparable sound and are found only in this region of West Africa between Mali and Guinea. All are made with natural goat and/or cow hides. The hides are untreated; they are simply shaved by hand with a razor. The ropes are pre-stretched, French-made, and specially designed by Kangaba. The colors of the ropes harmonize with the wood.
Specifications:
- Wood type: Dugura
- Skin: Goatskin
- Ropes: Pre-stretched, French made
- Dimensions: 36 x 60 cm
